About Wisiko

Who makes Wisiko, how we choose and check our numbers, and how we correct mistakes.

Wisiko is an independent editorial website about household costs: what appliances really use, what electricity costs, and how much material to buy for small home projects. The name comes from wise: the goal is to give you the right numbers so you can decide quickly and well.

What we publish

  • Free calculators that need no sign-up and run entirely in your browser: nothing you type is sent to our servers.
  • Data pages built from public sources (ADEME, Eurostat, energy regulators) that we process ourselves and keep up to date.
  • Practical guides that answer one specific question, with the formula and worked examples.

How we work

  1. Primary sources first. Tariffs come from official schedules (Ofgem in the UK, the U.S. Energy Information Administration, EDF/CRE in France), measured appliance consumption from ADEME open data, European prices from Eurostat. Every page lists its sources.
  2. Visible formulas. Our calculators use simple formulas that we explain on the page, so you can check the result yourself.
  3. Dates. Prices change: each page shows when it was last updated and which data period it uses.
  4. Estimates labelled as estimates. When a figure is an assumption or a rule of thumb, we say so.

We use software tools, including artificial-intelligence tools, to help with research, writing and coding. Every published figure is checked against its source before it goes live.

What we don’t do

Wisiko does not give personalised advice (financial, legal, technical or electrical-safety advice). For electrical work, structural concrete or a binding contract decision, talk to a qualified professional. We do not publish disguised sponsored content. The site may show advertising, always kept separate from editorial content.
